Devin's Bible Study - 1 Kings 7 & 8:1-9 (Solomon's Temple Cont'd)

Scripture Memorization
Proverbs 24:3-4 By wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established; by knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches.

Monday - Foundation
S - Read 1 Kings 7:1-12, Proverbs 24:3-4, James 3:17-18
  • Mark time phrases with a green clock
O -
  1. How long did Solomon take to build his house? And what were some of the rooms in his house?
  1. What did Solomon use for the foundation of the house?
  2. According to Proverbs 24:3-4 how is a house built?
  3. Where does wisdom come from according to James 3:17-18?
  4. What are some attributes of wisdom?
  5. Think about your house, what are some precious and pleasant riches that fill your house by the grace of God?
P - Ask God for more wisdom to discern the things that are excellent, and grow in knowledge and revelation of Him.

Tuesday - Skilled work
S - Read 1 Kings 7:13-22, Proverbs 22:29
O -
  1. Who did Solomon call to help with the building of the temple? Why?
  2. According to proverbs 22:29, what promise does God make to those who discipline themselves to be skilled at their work?
  1. What skills has God given you?
  1. Are you diligent in becoming excellent at them?
A - Examine how you are investing your time.  Are you investing your time in the things that are excellent and where your skills lie?  Or are you investing your time in so many things that you cannot be excellent at anything?   Try to narrow your focus to include more time on the things that you are skilled at.
P - Thank God for giving you gifts and talents and ask Him to discipline you in these areas.

Wednesday  - The bronze laver
S - Read 7:22-51, Exodus 30:17-21, John 13:12-17
O -
  1. What was the bronze laver on oxen used for?
  2. Where was it kept?
  3. How did Jesus perform this function to the disciples according to John 13:12-17?
  4. How were your spiritual feet dirty from picking up junk from the outside?
  5. Has Jesus washed your feet?
  1. What does Jesus call us to do?
A - Serve someone out of love today
P - Ask God to cleanse you of any junk that you have picked up lately and to help you in serving others through His love.

Thursday - Lampstands
S - Read 1 Kings 7:48-51, Exodus 25:31-40, Matthew 5:14-16
O -
  1. How many lampstands were in the temple?
  1. Why were lampstands used?
  2. What does Jesus call us?
  1. What are we to do?
  1. How does the light of Christ through us help others to know God?
  1. Do you see similarities between the light needed in the temple of God and why your light is needed to minister at the temple of God?
P - Ask God how you can serve His people and pray that His light shine through you.

Friday - Ark of the covenant
S - Read 1 Kings 8:1-9, Exodus 25:10-22
O -
  1. Where was the ark of the covenant located and where is was it going?
  1. Who was to take up the ark of the covenant?
  2. What offerings were made? How much?
  3. What covered the ark of the covenant once it was put in the temple?
  4. What was in the ark of the covenant?
  5. What of God is in you?
A - Decide how to be generous to the LORD and make an abundant offering to Him this week.
P - Thank God for His presence within you and pray that your offering would be pleasing to Him.
