Elena Bible Study - Fruit of the Spirit Week 10 (Self-Control)

Scripture Memorization
Proverbs 16:32 He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty, and he who rules his spirit, than he who captures a city.

Monday
S - Read Proverbs 25:16
Proverbs 25:16 Have you found honey? Eat only what you need, that you not have it in excess and vomit it.
O -
  1. Have you ever eaten too much of a good thing and gotten sick?
  2. What would have been a better portion for you too eat?
  3. What things do you like that think you could never have too much of?
  4. According to this scripture what happens when we have too much of a good thing?
A - Make a list of the things that you really like and think you could never have too much of.
P - In prayer read your list aloud to God. Ask Him to show you the perfect portion for you and to help you be disciplined to sticking to that portion.

Tuesday
S - Read Proverbs 25:27-28
Proverbs 25:27-28 It is not good to eat much honey, nor is it glory to seek out ones own glory.  Like a city that is broken into and without walls is a man who has no control of over his spirit.
O -
  1. What do you think it means to have control over your own spirit?
  2. What are some bad things that can happen when you don't have control over your own spirit?
  1. What are some areas that you have a lot of self-control?
  1. What are some areas that you do not have a lot of self-control?
A - Ask someone to hold you accountable for the areas that you do not have self-control over.
P - Thank God for giving You His Spirit of self-control and ask Him to continue to work in the areas of your life where you struggle with self-control.

Wednesday
S - Read Proverbs 16:32
Proverbs 16:32 He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty, and he who rules his spirit, than he who captures a city.
O -
  1. Do you think you can choose how you feel?
  1. Can you find joy in a bad day?
  1. What are some situations that cause you to feel bad?  Could you choose a better emotion for these situations.
A - When you feel negative emotions try to choose a positive emotion instead.
P - Keeping your emotions in check can be hard, ask God for help with this.

Thursday
S - Read Proverbs 11:13
Proverbs 11:13 he who goes about as a tail bearer reveals secrets, but he who is trustworthy conceals a matter.
Proverbs 20:19 he who goes about as a slanderer reveals secrets, therefore do not associate with a gossip
Proverbs 25:9 Argue your case with your neighbor, and do not reveal the secret of another.
O -
  1. What are you considered if you can keep a secret?
  1. Why shouldn't you hang out with someone who gossips?
  1. If you have a problem with someone, should you talk about with them or tell others about it instead?  Why?
  2. Have you ever gossiped?
A - Ask your parents what are appropriate things to share with others or even them, and what should be kept a secret.
P - Ask God to forgive you for the time you gossiped. 

Friday
S - Read 2 Peter 1:5
2 Peter 1:5 For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness;
O -
  1. What are things you should be adding to your faith daily?
  2. How does knowledge help you increase in self-control?
  1. What does perseverance mean?
  1. How does self-control help you increase your perseverance?
A - List how you have increased in knowledge of God and His ways
P - Praise God for who He is; He is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.  Ask Him to make you more like Him every day.
