Jeremiah 13:27 Adultery

As for your faithlessness, your adulteries and your lustful ways, as for the degrading way you prostitute yourself to other gods out in the open, I see it all.

Observation
They very first commandment God gives His people is that they are to serve no other God besides Him, the second is they are not to make an idol (fashion anything out of wood or other materials). God wants to be the center of their lives and their hearts. He doesn't want anything coming before Him. Yet, Judah breaks this command over and over and God calls it adultery.
We too have other gods in our lives. Those gods may be entertainment, our job, another person, or even ourselves. We put various things at the core of who we are and keep God on the fringe. We never stop to consider that we are cheating on God. We think because we haven't performed any sexual act, and we include God in our list of activities, that somehow it is not cheating.
It is better for those who have never made a commitment to God, then for those who have but continue to cheat on Him.

Application
This verse is a double-edge sword. I have cheated on God. I am unfaithful. Because I have confessed my sin and turned, He has forgiven me and cleansed me from this sin. He has made me faithful. But the minute that I allow more of the world and less of Him in me, I know that I can become unfaithful again. This is a warning to watch my heart.

Prayer
Father, thank You for Your faithfulness. Please continue to keep me close to You. I desire to be faithful to You always.
