Luke 12:6-7 Fear

Are not five sparrows sold for two cents? Yet not one of them is forgotten before God. Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear; you are more valuable than many sparrows.

Observation
What causes you to fear? Jesus say's it is a lack of understanding of how much we are loved. 1 John 4:18 says There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves punishment, and the one who fears is not perfected in love.
The proof of God's love for us can be found in many places, like Jesus coming to earth and being the atoning sacrifice for our sins. But His love can also be found in the most unsuspecting places like the common sparrow, referenced in these verses. The sparrows have always been known as common, gregarious, unremarkable and often pesky birds. Gathering in large colonies and living off anything and everything.
Jesus' reference to the sparrows tells us that our Heavenly Father does not miss a thing! Even creatures as insignificant as this little creature catch the attention of our Lord. Moreover, even the number of hairs on our head is noticed and counted by the Father.
When we see the thing we are afraid of in light of the love of God, a peace that surpasses all understanding washes over us. We have no reason to fear, even those who can kill us because God's loving and faithful hands hold us.

Application
I fear several things throughout my day. Seemingly silly things like rejection and failure can tighten my chest and weigh down my thoughts. In these moments I need to dwell on how much I am loved. This is a great verse to do that very thing. Psalm 103:2 says to bless The Lord and forget not His benefits. When fear threatens to overwhelm me I have an incredible opportunity to bless The Lord and dwell on all that He has done for me, who He is, and His great promises for me. One day I will be perfected in a His amazing love and fear will no longer have a grip on my life.

Prayer
Father, thank You for Your incredible love for me. You will never forget me or reject me; Your love never fails. Please perfect me in Your love and turn my thoughts to blessing You when fear and anxiety begin to take hold.
