Here are some of the scriptures I am memorizing this week. I would love for you to hold me accountable if you see me this week.
1. Proverbs 31:30 - Charm is deceitful and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.
- Memorizng this verse helps me to keep the correct perspective on how I look and others opinion of me. Its OK to look nice and it is good to be healthy for sure. However, beauty and populatirty can not be my driving ambition. Instead continious reverence of the Lord, needs to be my constant goal.
2. Psalm 25:4-5 - Make me know Your ways, O LORD; teach me Your paths, lead me in Your truth and teach me, for You are the God of my salvation; for You I wait all the day.
- Like Proverbs 3:5 I am implored to lean on God for understanding and direction, and to also wait on Him and not react. I feel the opposite in my flesh all the time. I want to react to my understanding of situations.
3. Song of Solomon 2:14 - O my dove, in the clefts of the rock, in the secret place of the steep pathway, let me see your form, let me hear your voice, for your voice is sweet, and your form is lovely.
- When I think about waiting for God in our secret place to hear His sweet voice and see His form, then O how wonderful waiting can be!
4. Ephesians 1:17-19 - That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory may give to you a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of Him. I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you will know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe. These are in accordance with the working of the strength of His might.
- Phew that's a long one and I am going to S.O.A.P. that one for sure. But I chose this one because it is rich with promises and attrubutes of who God is. I want to pray this continually over everyone I know.
5. Proverbs 30:5 - Every word of God is tested and is a shield to all those who take refuge in Him.
- This is exactly why I want to memorize scripture, because His scripture is a shield. I want to take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ (2 Cor. 10:5).
Tips that I use in memorizing scripture:
1. I say the verses out loud. Faith comes through hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ (Rom. 10:17) It does no good to memorize scripture if you don't believe it.
2. I write it down and disect it.
3. I tell others about the verse.
4. I pray the verse.
5. This may be a little cheesy to some of you, but I sing the verse. Yes, it's true. There is something about adding a chord progression behind the verse that plants the roots of God's word even deeper in my soul.
How about you? What are some tools that you use to memorize scripture?
