S - Read 1 Kings 1:1-10
- Write 972 BC in the margin of your bible at the beginning of the chapter
- Mark a distinctive way the following men David, Adonijah, and Solomon

- What is this chapter about?
- Who are the main characters?
- When is the event taking place? How old is king David?
- How do the servants try to make him feel better? Does it work?
- Which son of David decides to anoint himself as king?
- List some of the things he does to establish his right as king.
- Who was not invited to this party?

P- Praise God that even when things look dismal, He is still sovereign and in control. Psalm 121 say's I lift up my eyes to the mountains- where does my help come from? My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth. He will not let your foot slip - he who watches over you will not slumber; indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The LORD watches over you-the LORD is your shade at your right hand; the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. The LORD will keep you from all harm- he will watch over your life; the LORD will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.
Tuesday

- Mark time phrases, such as then with a clock around the word

- What have Nathan and Bathsheba planned to counteract Adonijah's attempt for the crown?
- Why are they opposing Adonijah's rule?
- According the verse 17, who had David promised his crown to?

P - Praise God that His plans and purposes are never thwarted. Isaiah 14:27 say's
For the LORD of hosts has planned, and who can frustrate it? And as for His stretched-out hand, who can turn it back?”
Wednesday
S - Read 1 Kings 1:28-40
- Continue to mark David, Adonijah, and Solomon in the same distinctive ways
- Mark time phrases, such as then with a clock around the word
- Mark the LORD with a triangle over His name and highlight it yellow.
- Mark Israel and Judah with a star over their name, mark the synonym city in verse 41 this way as well.

- Who does David decide to make king?
- Who was to anoint Solomon as king?
- How is Solomon's rule announced to the kingdom?
- How did the people respond to Solomon's anointing?
P - Thank God for having a plan and purpose for your life. Ask God to help you stay close to Him always. Jeremiah 29:11 say's For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
Thursday
S - Read 1 Kings 1:41-53

- What captures Adonijah's attention that something is up?
- Who delivers the news that Solomon has been made king?
- How do the men at his party respond to the news of Solomon's kingship?
- Based on what you read in verse 47, what is specific information is Adonijah given that proves the validity of Solomon's kingship?
- Why is Adonijah afraid?
- On what grounds will king Solomon kill Adonijah?
- Is Adonijah proven wicked?
P - Praise God for his mercy. 1 Peter 1:3 say's Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead

- How has God redeemed your life?
- What other descriptive names would you give God?
- What happens when men try to establish themselves as kings apart from God's plan?
A - Write a theme at the top of this chapter in your bible. Journal how this situation relates to any personal situations going on in your personal life.
P - Praise God for redeeming your life. Psalm 106:10 say's He saved them from the hand of the foe; from the hand of the enemy he redeemed them.
