Isaiah 26:3 You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in You.
Observation
Have you ever stopped to think about what you are thinking about? Philippians 4:8 say's whatever is true, whatever is worthy of reverence, whatever is honorable and seemly, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things. So I have been monitoring what is "on my mind" this week and I was surprised to see that even though I have been a Christian for a while now, my mind still struggles with thoughts that don't line up to the thought life outlined in Philippians 4:8.
Keeping your mind steadfast toward God is a discipline. It doesn't just happen. Romans 12:2 say's that we are transformed by the renewing of our mind. Our mind is renewed by reading, studying, memorizing, and applying the word of God. How can we begin to discipline our thought life, when we don't know lies from truth? Having a steadfast mind is a faith action. Everyday you are getting up, studying scripture and applying that scripture through prayer, praise, and serving. The promise that God has given those who are steadfast in seeking Him is that He will keep them in perfect peace. Doesn't that make you want to study and memorize His word even more?
Application
One of the things that I have done is record scripture verses that I am trying to memorize. More than that though, I have recorded my husband saying those favorite scriptures. I listen to these scriptures at night sometimes before I go to bed, on walks, or even just cleaning the house. Romans 10:17 say's that faith comes from hearing and hearing from the word of God. This application is very effective.
Prayer
Jesus, You are the word made flesh (John 1:14). You are the Great Teacher. Through Your blood we have forgiveness of sin and can now come boldly before the throne of grace and present our requests to God. How precious are Your thoughts to me O LORD (Psalm 139:17). How wonderful are Your works. Your word renews me each day and instructs my feet in the way they should go. Thank You for creating and fanning a passion in me for Your word. Please keep me close to You. May the self-discipline of Your Spirit be upon my life, for I trust in You.
