Devin's Bible Study - 1 Kings 2

Scripture Memorization
Proverbs 22:17-18 Incline your ear to hear the words of the wise, and apply your mind to my knowledge; for it will be pleasant if you keep them within you, that they may be ready on your lips.

Monday
S - Read 1 Kings 2:1-12
  • Highlight the requests David makes of Solomon
  • Make a cloud over the word wisdom
  • In verse 11 mark the time phrases with a green clock
O -
  1. Who are the main characters in these verses?
  2. When is this conversation taking place?
  1. List all 4 requests that David makes of Solomon.
  1. Look up the words statutes, commandments, ordinances, and testimonies. Not the differences of each.
  1. What promise does God give if you follow His statutes, commandments, ordinances, and testimonies? (See end of verse 3).
  1. What did David want done to Joab and Shimei?
  1. How long did David reign?
A - Journal how you are following God's statutes, commandments, ordinances, and testimonies.
P-  Praise God today for helping you grow in knowledge and wisdom of His ways.

Tuesday
S - Read 1 Kings 2:13-25
O -
  1. Who are the main characters in this segment?
  1. What did Adonijah request of Bathsheba?
  1. Why didn't Adonijah ask Solomon himself?
  1. What was Solomon's response to Bathsheba's request?
  1. Who did Solomon send to kill Adonijah?
P - Praise God that we because of Jesus blood we can come boldly before the throne of grace and present our requests to Him. 

Wednesday
S - Read 2 Kings 2:26-35
 O -
  1. Why was Abiathar the priest punished?
  1. How was he punished?
  1. How did Solomon answer his Dad's request for retribution from Joab?
  1. Where did Joab hide?  Why would Joab think he was safe there?
  2. Do you think Joab was there to seek God and his will?
  1. Where is a safe place you can go?
  1. Who did Solomon send to kill Joab?
  1. What was Benaiah's reward for carrying out Solomon's request?
P - Praise God for being a strong tower that you can run to and be safe.

Thursday
S - Read 1 Kings 2:36-46
O -
  1. How did Solomon answer his Dad's request for retribution against Shimei?
  1. Did Shimei agree to the terms that Solomon gave?
  1. Did Shimei keep his promise?  Why did he leave Jerusalem?
  1. How was Shimei punished for breaking his promise?

A - Journal promises that you have made, but have broken.
P - Confess these broken promises to God and ask for forgiveness.

Friday
S - Review chapter 2
O -
  1. How quickly did Solomon respond to King David's requests?
  1. Why would Solomon listen to his father and respond so quickly?
  1. What was the result of Solomon's quick response (see verse 45)?
  1. Do you respond quickly to requests made by your father?
  1. What result can you expect when you do?
  1. What inheritance will you have if you follow God's statutes, commandments, ordinances, and testimonies?
  2. How did King David describe his son Solomon? (See verse 9).
  3. What books of the bible did King Solomon write?
  4. Do you think  King Solomon was wise?

A - Write a theme at the top of this chapter in your bible. Create a chapter in your journal and title it promises.  List the promises you learned about this week.
P - Praise God for His promises and ask Him to help you practice immediate obedience to all He asks of you.
